Energy and Climate Change

energy_and_climate

Rupa is committed towards continuous improvisation of its systems and technologies to enhance the energy management at the organization.

The focus areas include:
  • Conservation of energy
  • Improvement in energy efficiency
  • Reliance on renewable energy
  • Focus on implementation of alternative fuel

Our Actions

  • LED lights have replaced traditional lighting system.
  • The steam generated from the boiler is captured and reused in operations including drying, compaction and heating the incoming boiler water.
  • Procurement of indigenous products locally leading to reduction in carbon footprint.

Case Study: Steam Heat Recovery

At our Domjur dyeing unit, we have incorporated a steam heat recovery system. This allows us to make full utilization of the energy carried out by the outgoing steam. The heat of the steam is used judiciously for drying the dyed fabric, heating the water to boiler drum and compactioning the fabric before packaging.

Water and Effluents

We understand that water is a scarce resource and continue to optimise our water consumption across all our plants and offices.

Our primary sources of water includes ground water and third party vendors.

Our Actions

  • Implementation of calibrated flowmeters at all withdrawal and consumption locations.
  • Continuous periodic maintenance to prevent water leakages.
  • Developing in-house solution to elimitate use of salts used in dyeing

Case Study: Endeavour towards Achieving ZLD

The Company’s dyeing unit at Domjur is in the process of developing a solution to eliminate the use of salts in the dyeing process by using its own R&D. The Company has successfully run the pilot and will be implementing the process for the entire plant in near future.

Materials Management

Our focus is on the optimization of our processes and operations to minimize material use with maximum production.

We ensure the judicious use of raw materials and all available resources are at Rupa.

Our Actions

  • 100% of products made from 100% viscose fibre.
  • Many of our materials suppliers are GOTS approved and have received the Oeko-Tex certification- Implying that materials are free of banned substances like hypochlorite and azo dyes.

Waste

We have set ourselves the commitment to reduce waste generation and conduct methodical waste management across all our manufacturing units and offices.

Our attention towards optimized production fosters our initiative towards minimizing waste.

Our Actions

  • Segregation of waste into different categories at source.
  • Systematic accounting of waste generated.
  • Disposal of waste through authorized waste handling vendors.
  • Emphasis on reuse of raw materials and packaging materials wherever possible.
  • > 90% of the fabric waste is recycled.

Our approach is centred around the protection of the biodiversity and environment around us. We make continuous efforts in mitigating any form of negative environmental impact on the natural habitats around us,thereby conserving the flora and fauna.

Our Actions

  • Plantation of trees in and around the manufacturing plants.
  • Growing of vegetables and herbal medicinal plants.

Sustainable Packaging

As a progressive apparel brand, we have set our priorities when it comes to product packaging. We strive towards using eco-friendly packaging materials and are also exploring into using recycled and reused packaging materials.

Our Actions

  • Continuous reduction in use of plastic packaging materials.
  • Incorporating more cardboard and eco-friendly packaging materials into the mix.
